Justice George Vincent Odunga Confirmed as a Keynote Speaker at Research Week 2020

Justice George Vincent Odunga has been confirmed as a Keynote Speaker at the 3rd Annual Victimology and Victim Support Conference, Research Week 2020. 

He is currently the Presiding Judge, Machakos High Court, Kenya. An Alumnus of the University of Nairobi, he attained a Bachelor's degree in Law from the institution in 1992.He was Admitted to the Role of Advocates as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya on 23rd February 1995. He started off his career at Behan & Okero Advocates where he was a former partner.

Justice Odunga was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Kenya on 23rd August, 2011. He has also served as the Presiding Judge, Judicial Review Division, Milimani High Court, Nairobi, Kenya. In the same court, he also served in the Commercial and Civil Divisions.

Justice Odunga is the Winner of the 2015 Law Society of Kenya’s Distinguished Award in the Administration of Justice and 2018 Jurist of the Year Award.

He is a member of the High Court Advisory Committee established under section 23 of The High Court (Organization and Administration) Act. He is also a member of the Rules Committee established under section 81 of the Civil Procedure Act. Justice Odunga has served in the same Committee as a representative of the Law Society of Kenya while in private practice. During their tenure, the Committee oversaw the overhaul of the Civil Procedure Rules as well as the Court of Appeal Rules.

Justice Odunga is a former member of the Employment and Labour Relations Rules Committee established under section 23 of the Employment and Labour Relations Court Act. In his line of duty, he also served in the inaugural Technical Committee of the Supreme Court Rules Committee. Represented the judiciary in the Committee tasked with the enactment of the architecture of Courts Martial under Parts X, XI and XII of the Kenya Defence Forces Act. He is also a member of the International Refugee Law Judges Association – Africa Chapter.

In scholarly field, Justice Odunga has authored “Odunga’s Digest of Civil Case Law and Procedure” comprising of 10 volumes now in its Third Edition. He was born in the late 1960s in western Kenya.
