The Director Research Prof Justus M Munyoki and the Deputy Director IT (Management Information Systems) Dr Caroline Chepkoech Kiptoo participated in a two week Benchmarking study tour of the University of Pretoria from 25th July to 5th August 2022. The ARUA - Carnegie Data-Gathering and Benchmarking study tour was organized to offer an opportunity for staff participating in the project to study the systems that are currently in place for the collection, management and validation of the data supplied to ARUA for the benchmarking exercise at other peer institutions. The programme is deemed to be important for peer learning among ARUA member universities towards enhanced strategic planning and research management at higher education institutions in Africa. The Benchmarking exercise focused on three areas
- Data acquisition
- Data preparation
- Understanding and utilization and development of communities at the host institution
Also participating in the Bench Marking Exercise were two participants from Addis Ababa University, Ethipoia , namely Dr Tedesse Hailu Director research and Dinkineh Atinaffie, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research & Technology Transfer.
The tour was quite interactive and an eye opener to the participants and they to learn data management systems in various areas ranging from student admission, fees payment, timetabling, target setting for admission, staff records, library services and research data. Data reporting for internal planning as well as for statutory reporting to government agencies was also a key subject of the benchmarking exercise.
