Non-communicable diseases in Africa
Prof. Margaret J. Hutchinson, Associate Vice Chancellor (RIE), Prof Fred Bukachi Lead of the ARUA CoE on Non-Communicable Diseases, Prof Fredrick Otieno Associate Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Anne Kamau, Faculty of Health Sciences and other University of Nairobi Members among the many other members from Various Universities and Organizations who attended the ARUA Conference and Networking Meeting 2023. The conference was organized by the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, the University of Glasgow International Partnership Development Funding, and the Glasgow-Caribbean Centre for Development Research. It was a five day Conference from 27th to 31st March 2023.
Representatives from the African Research Universities Alliance, ARUA, the University of Nairobi, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, the Technical University of Kenya, Pwani University, the University of Ibadan, the University of Lagos, the Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Ifakara Health Institute, the African Population and Health Research Center, the University of the West Indies, and the Glasgow-Caribbean Centre for Development Research.
The Conference provided an opportunity for discussing communal interests in non- communicable diseases, multimorbidity, and infection. A series of meetings, seminars and workshops was also organized to bring together scientists and administrative staff from their institutions promoting professional interactions between them.
The Organizing Committee expressed to all participants a deep appreciation for the scientific response which demonstrated how strong the interest in South-North collaborations is.
Glasgow University is located in Glasgow City which is one of the most attractive cities in Scotland.
