CRC AND CLCLPRO VISIT TO THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Prof. M. Hutchinson, Associate Vice Chancellor (R.I.E)  on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama officially opened the Commission for  Controlling  the  Desert Locust in the Central  Region (CRC) and  Commission  for  Controlling  the  Desert  Locust  in the  Western  Region (CLCPRO) visit to the Faculty of Science and Technology UON.. Present also was the DirectorLocust Control  Department  Ministry of Agriculture, Sudan and FAD Kenya, National  Locust Expert.

The  2019  desert   locust  upsurge  occurred   after  along  lull  in  the  region  and  caused  unprecedented destruction   to  crops and  pasture  in the  Horn  of Africa. The  region  is currently  calm  after  two  years of control   operations  coordinated  by government  under  the  tutelage  of  experienced  FAD teams. Though swarms  were  successfully  decimated,   there   is urgent   need  to  strengthen   partnership   among  regional institutions. University of Nairobi  is one of the institutions  in the region.The mission is to  discuss and  identify  areas of  convergence  in relation to  desert  locust  management.
