A delegation of Senior Management from the University of Tennessee Knoxville visited the University of Nairobi on Thursday 22nd June 2023, and held a consultative one on one meeting with representatives of various faculties that included, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Health Sciences and the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies. Also represented were the Director Anthropology, Gender and African Studies, and Director, Sports, as well as the Departments of Geography, and Sociology.
The University of Tennessee had earlier in the year, after identifying the University of Nairobi as a
strategic partner , sent Dr McGowan to explore the possibilities of working with the University of
Nairobi in academic, teaching and research collaborations, with keen interest on the Wangari Maathai
Institute.
Among the delegates from Tennessee were Prof Gretchen Neisler, Vice provost for International Affairs, Prof Sally Morris, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Administration, Prof Brad Day, Associate Vice Chancellor Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development, and , Dr Jamie McGowan Director, Global Research Office Center for Global Engagement.
The University of Nairobi Team was led by Prof Margaret J Hutchinson, DVC, Research Innovation and Enterprise, and Prof Justus Munyoki, Research and Enterprise.
The team also toured the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, and later made a Courtesy Call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Stephen Kiama, during which the two Universities signed a Collaborative Agreement. Prof Kiama assured the Tennessee team that the University of Nairobi was keen to establish strategic partners with high top Universities around the world and thanked Tennessee for finding the University of Nairobi a suitable partner within the region.
