TWAS-Abdus Salam Medal

The TWAS-Abdus Salam Medal was instituted in 1995 to honour the Academy's founder and first president, Nobel Laureate Professor Abdus Salam and is awarded to highly distinguished personalities who have served the cause of science in the Developing World. The next TWAS-Abdus Salam Medal will be conferred in 2022 on the occasion of the election of the new Council of TWAS.

TWAS─Atta-ur-Rahman Award in Chemistry

TWAS is inviting nominations for the 2021 Award.

Nominations are accepted from TWAS members as well as science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions in developing and developed countries.

Eligibility:

Eligible candidates are young chemists (not older that 40), national of a developing country, who have been living and working in a Scientifically and Technologically Lagging (STL) country, for a minimum of two years immediately prior to their nomination. All fields of Chemistry are eligible.

TWAS-Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi Award

TWAS is inviting nominations for the 2021 Award from all its members as well as science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions in developing and developed countries.

Self nominations (i.e. applications) WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application

The $10,000 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.

This award will recognize exceptional, science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under 40 who has clearly demonstrated intellectual courage, stamina, and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.

Victor Rabinowitch Memorial Award for Young Leaders in International Scientific Cooperation

The Victor Rabinowitch Memorial Award for Young Leaders in International Scientific Cooperation will recognize and encourage young scientists to facilitate and promote novel and promising frameworks and approaches to international scientific cooperation.  The award is not intended to support international research projects in and of themselves, but rather to recognize innovative methods and platforms to facilitate such projects as well as other forms of international scientific activity.  

The World Food Prize Award

The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the accomplishments of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world.

The World Food Prize is a $250,000 award formally presented at the Laureate Award Ceremony in mid-October, on or around World Food Day, in conjunction with the Borlaug Dialogue international symposium.

Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Prize

The Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Prize recognizes woman scientists from least-developed countries with scientific achievements in clean and renewable energy; sustainable agriculture and agro-biodiversity; plastic pollution and microplastics, water purification and sanitation, climate change, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and other themes related to sustainability. The winner will receive a cash award of US$4 thousand. Candidates should be working and living in an LDC country for at least two years prior to nomination.

Zayed Sustainability Prize

The Zayed Sustainability Prize recognizes achievements that are driving impact, innovation and inspiration in environmental stewardship and global sustainability. The Prize is awarded across several categories: (i) Health; (ii)Food; (iii) Energy; (iv) Water; and (v) Global high schools (i.e., high schools in six world regions). The winners in each category receive US$600 thousand each.
