University of Nairobi Hosts UNIHUBS International Training to Revolutionise Digital Innovation in Higher Education

The University of Nairobi (UON), through the C4DLab, officially launched the UNIHUBS International Training Activity and the 4th Partners’ Meeting, taking place from March 2nd to 6th, 2026. This event brings together a consortium of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs), and international partners to test and evaluate the UNIHUBS educational package.

From Research to Livelihoods: UoN’s Science Translation Hub to Transform Food Systems

Hosted under the Kenya Science Translation Hub, the workshop brings together early-career researchers and PhD candidates from the University of Nairobi (UoN), University of Embu, and Maseno University, alongside postdoctoral researchers from the University of Leeds. The initiative, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), aims to position UoN as a regional Centre of Excellence in Science Translation.

The presence of the university’s top management led by the Chair of Council Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha highlighted its importance. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Margaret Hutchinson, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) for Human Resource and Administration, Prof. John Mande. Also present to take part in the event were the DVC Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE), Prof. Leonidah Kerubo; DVC Academic Affairs, Prof. Ayub Gitau; and DVC Finance, Planning, and Development Prof. Jackson Maalu alongside faculty members and university staff.

RIE Explores Strategic Pathway to Commercialise Garlic- Based Meat Preservation Innovation

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise (DVC-RIE), Prof. Leonidah Kerubo today hosted a high-level engagement between the University of Nairobi and the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) to unlock the commercialisation pathway for a promising home-grown innovation: a garlic extract technology for natural meat preservation.

DVC RIE Launches University-Wide Data Collection Exercise to Strengthen Institutional Sustainability

The DVC kicked off the exercise at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, where she was received by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Jack Odhiambo. Later, the DVC’s team, which included the Director of Research and Enterprise, Prof. Thomas Ochuku, and the Director, Library and Information Services, Mrs Angela Mumo, visited the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). The Acting Dean, Prof. Francis Nyongesa, and Associate Dean (Ag.), Prof. Sheila Okoth, received them.

The team led by Prof. Paul Mativenga was in Nairobi at the invitation of Prof. Thomas Ochuku Mbuya, Director of research and Enterprise to discuss collaborative research and development project opportunities in the areas of inclusive clean energy access, sustainable manufacturing and circular economy. Opportunities for PhD scholarships and student mobility were also discussed.
