  • Message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RPE)

The University of Nairobi is a research intensive university with a reputation for excellence and a strong and vibrant research culture. Our research work is recognised for its impact and relevance to the region.

The University of Nairobi is dedicated to creating and strengthening partnerships with industry and other significant institutions and/or organizations to maximize research outcomes. We are especially proud of the contributions the University is making through our research and learning centers and institutes and their involvement with industry partners.

The ability of the university’s innovation incubation centre like the Science and Technology Park in conjunction with the Intellectual Property Management Office to transfer research outcomes to commercial reality is highly regarded. (Read more)


  • Quality Objectives

  1. Build research capacity to grow research funding by 5% annually.
  2. Promote commercialization of research by increasing collaborations, partnerships and linkages with industry at an increase of 10% annually.
  3. Promote and protect intellectual property rights through registration of at least ten (10) patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and any other annually in order to increase innovations.
  4. Enhance dissemination of research findings to stakeholders at an increase of 10% annually through publications, consultancies, conference presentations and exhibitions as a way of contributing solutions to societal needs.

The Research, Production and Extension (RPE) Division is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RPE) who steers and manages research, innovation and extension activities, supported by the Research Development and Advisory Board as the main governance board whose membership is drawn from across the university and industry.

The Research development and Advisory Board plays an advisory role to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Production & Extension) on the following matters:

1. Research infrastructure development and formulation of appropriate policies;

2. Research planning, coordination, administration, logistical support;

3. Potential grant sources;
