Prof. Kithaka wa Mberia Confirmed as a Keynote speaker at the Research Week 2020

Prof. Kithaka wa Mberia has been confirmed as a Keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual Conference on the Role of Literature in a Global World themed Eastern African Literatures in the 21st Century: Achievements, Challenges, Perspectives of the Research Week 2020.  He is a professor in the Department of Linguistics and Languages, University of Nairobi, where he has taught for close to four decades.

He has taught in universities in four continents. Besides teaching at the University of Nairobi, he has also taught at Virginia State University (USA) as a Fulbright Scholar-in Residence, University of Warsaw (Poland) as a European Modern University Visiting Professor and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (S. Korea) as a Visiting Professor.

He is a poet and a playwright writing in Kiswahili, Africa’s largest indigenous language. Besides academic papers in peer-reviewed journals, he has also published seven anthologies of poetry and three plays. All his plays, namely, Kifo Kisimani, Natala and Maua Kwenye Jua la Asbuhi, have been performed at the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi. His poetry has also been dramatized at the same venue. He has recited his poetry in several countries including Kenya, Tanzania, USA, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Germany and Italy. His play, Kifo Kisimani, was a compulsory examination set book for secondary school students in Kenya from 2005 to 2012. His second play, Natala, was a Teachers Training Colleges (Kenya) set book between 2005 and 2015.
