Dr. Maina Wa Gĩokõ has been confirmed as a keynote speaker during Research Week 2020. He will speak during the virtual 2nd Annual International Conference on Open, Distance and e-Learning. The theme of the conference is Optimising Open, Distance and e-Learning Approaches for Effective Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Maina Wa Gĩokõ is Head of Professional Development Center at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa. Dr. Maina in A Global Coordinator in Knowledge Innovative Exchange Project across Kenya, Rwanda, Bangladesh and Canada. Dr. Maina is a Board member of Global Action Plan where sustainable behavior change is their core function. Dr. Maina is a member of TC3 WG3 International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).
Dr. Maina is heading a 5-year 250M Foundation for Learning project on educators continuous professional learning at a distance in the year 2020-2025. Dr. Maina is a Master Trainer, Lead Facilitator, Instructional Designer and an Author on innovative pedagogies, continuous professional learning and education for sustainable development. Dr. Maina is collaborating with British council in recasting face to face professional learning programmes into remote deployment across the region. Dr. Maina is a Journal Reviewer with Education and Information Technologies and Academic Journals.
In 2019 Dr. Maina was a Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Finalist. Dr. Maina received Aga Khan University Presidents Recognition on Leadership Change in Education in 2019. Dr. Maina has been recognized as Top 100 Most Influencers of Education Technology in Africa (2018). Dr. Maina is a METIS fellow (2018), a Harvard Graduate School of Education Fellow (2012) and Microsoft Fellow (2017). Dr. Maina has been Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator for the last 5 years (2015-2021).
