Postdoctoral position (Social LCA) – Building sustainable biomass value chains in Southern Africa

We are looking for a person who will assess the social impacts when establishing new bio-based value chains in Southern African countries.

The work consists of quantifying and assessing the potential impacts from a system perspective using social life cycle assessment (LCA) and other methods for social sustainability assessment. An important part of the work is to assess both the positive and negative impacts on local stakeholders throughout the value chains as new bio-based products replace other products in local households and industries. The focus of the work will be on harvest, transformation, sales and end-use of encroaching and invasive bush as well as the restoration of the bush encroached savannah regions across Namibia, Botswana and South Africa to productive land. This will generate jobs, increase energy security, mitigate climate impacts and  lead to long term social, economic, and environmental benefits across the region. You will work in a larger research group at SLU and collaborate with research groups at other European and African institutions as well as with companies engaged in the biomass and bioenergy sector.
