PhD scholarship: CFD modelling of plasma reactor

The University of Queensland is inviting applications for Ph.D. scholarship. A full scholarship is available for a PhD student to conduct research on Plasma reactor modelling. Thermal Plasma based chemical processing technology provides a unique opportunity to carry out reaction with exceptionally fast kinetics and residence time usually in order of few millisecond. This feature has been exploited to intensify the conventional chemical process into a low footprint skid based plant. Such small plants are quickly catching the interest of small to medium industries. A working knowledge of CFD modelling or turbulent flow modelling would be of benefit to someone working on this project. Candidates who is not familiar with CFD but has a strong mathematical foundation and some background in solving ODE’s and PDE’s are also encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

  • Open to both domestic and international applicants
  • A bachelor’s degree with at least honours class IIA or equivalent from approved universities, which includes a relevant research component.
  • A research master’s degree.
  • A coursework master’s degree and an overall GPA (grade point average) equivalent to 5.65 on the 7-point UQ scale, which includes a relevant research component; or
  • A postgraduate degree of at least one year full-time equivalent with an overall GPA (grade point average) equivalent to 5.0 on the 7-point UQ scale, together with demonstrated research experience equivalent to honours IIA will be considered for PhD entry on a case by case basis; or
  • A bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of documented relevant research experience, including research publications.
  • Applicant needs to demonstrate some research experience to be accepted into a PhD. If you can show you have planned and written a research project with some independence, you have enough experience to apply

The scholarship value is $28,854 per annum
