IWA water and development awards

The IWA Development Award recognises excellence, leadership and innovation in the water sector, and aims to encourage the continued contribution to the sustainable management of water in low- and middle-income countries. The IWA Development Award is awarded by a panel of experts, and recognises outstanding contributions to research or practice that has led to demonstrable impact in low- and middle-income countries. It is awarded every two years at the IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition.

Eni Award: Debut in Research: Young Talents from Africa Prize

Eni is a global energy company operating in a responsible way towards its stakeholders in about sixty-eight countries along the entire value chain. It concretely supports a just energy transition for a net-zero carbon future, with the objective of preserving our planet and promoting an efficient and sustainable access to energy for all, pursuing a fair energy transition with respect to society and world’s ecosystems.

Georg Forster Research Award

The award amount is €60,000. Award winners are also invited to conduct a research project of their choice at a research institution in Germany in cooperation with specialist colleagues there. The award enables a total stay of between six months and a full year, which can be split into multiple stays.

L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International rising talents for female researchers

Since 2000, the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme has highlighted the achievements of younger women who are in the early stages of their scientific careers. Each year, the International rising talents programme selects the 15 most promising women scientists among the more than 250 national and regional young talents of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme. These young women are first selected by local juries, and are then invited to apply.

Annual Conservation Awards

To recognize and reward individuals, groups, and Affiliated Societies for outstanding work in the field of orchid conservation, the AOS sponsors an annual Conservation Recognition Award. The Conservation Committee can award up to two first prizes annually of US$500 each. At least one of the prizes is designated to recognize efforts benefiting the conservation of orchid species native to Canada, the United States, or Mexico. One of the prizes needs to have no geographical limitations. An additional two runner-up awards of US$250 each may be given if judged appropriate.

Allianz Climate Risk Research Award

Launched in 2017, the Allianz Climate Risk Research Award acknowledges and rewards young scientists whose works shed light on the nexus between climate change and the extreme weather events that threaten millions of livelihoods and present ways these populations could be better protected. It targets PhD candidates and Post-Doctoral researchers whose research focuses on:

  • Reducing the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change;
  • Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions.
