ENHANCING CAPACITY OF PHD STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS ON GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING – CARTA PROJECT

Prof. M. J. Hutchinson DVC(RIE) Officially welcomed the Deans and Associate Deans in the
capacity strengthening training in grant proposal development meeting which took place at the University of Nairobi Towers on 12th April 2024.

Dr. Angeline Chepchirchir the  Project PI took over in explaining the role of Deans and Associate Deans /Directors, outlining the project activities and explained role of TOTs in mainstreaming grant proposal writing training at faculty level.

Kick off meeting workshop - “Empowering Tomorrow's Food Security Leaders: Strengthening Higher Education Capacity for Sustainable Food Systems in Kenya and Mozambique’’ (Food leader Project) a collaboration between Finland, Kenya and Mozambique aimed at enhancing the capacity of the institutions in educating future experts who can provide strategic leadership to enhance food safety and nutrition security officiated by our DVC RIE UoN.

Nairobi Innovation Week 2024  will be held from 8th to 10th May 2024. This year Theme being Strengthening the Innovation Ecosystem through Government- Industry- Academia Linkages for sustainable development

It will take place at the University of Nairobi Main Campus.

Nurturing Early Career Researchers

In a bid to bolster the early career researcher’s capabilities, the Office of the Deputy Vice
Chancellor, Research, Innovation, and Enterprise (DVC-RIE), Prof. Margaret J. Hutchinson, on
February 15, 2024 hosted a training on Research Process. The program is funded by the
International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). Participants came from various faculties.
The program commenced with a warm welcome extended to participants by Prof. Hutchinson,
who further elaborated on the Division’s functions and commitment to enhancing research

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING FOR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF ON RESEARCH MANAGEMENT AND PROCESSES

The University of Nairobi, office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation & Enterprise) hosted a capacity building training session for administrators on research management and research processes on February 14, 2023. The Capacity building is supported by a grant titled “Development of Research Data Management Infrastructure and staff capacity building” funded by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX).

Enhancing Research Data Management Training

Research plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific discoveries and driving innovation across
various disciplines. However, managing these data efficiently and effectively is essential to
enhance data driven decision-making, one of the UoN’s 5 Reform Agenda. Recognizing this
need, the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) granted University of Nairobi a
seed fund to develop a research data management infrastructure as well as staff capacity building
project to enhance research data management.
